SoNoRo Festival

SoNoRo was born in 2006 in Bucharest as an experiment in bringing chamber music back to Romania, where this genre of music making was somewhat forgotten at the time. Since then, it has developed into one of the most exciting, creative and internationally acclaimed cultural events in Eastern Europe.

SoNoRo concerts take place in the best concert halls, palaces, museums, theatres, clubs and other unusual locations in Bucharest as well as in Cluj- Napoca, Iasi, Sibiu or Timisoara. Our artists include many of the most interesting and internationally appreciated musicians on stage today.

The programmes express our artistic tastes and preferences and love for the adventure, and range from Baroque, classical and modern masterpieces to jazz, tango and crossover music.

Most importantly, SoNoRo attracts unprecedented numbers of listeners every year, and as a result there has been a real chamber music Renaissance in Romania. SoNoRo creates a platform for us to

communicate our vision and spirit to a wider audiences, through performances and collaboration with artists, painters, photographers, filmmakers, writers and media. SoNoRo will be 11 years old in November 2016, which means that it is still young, curious and open for new ideas and creative challenges.

The Ensemble Raro is the “ensemble in residence” of the SoNoRo Festival and regularly performs on the side of renowned musicians as Philippe Graffin, Mihaela Martin, Gilles Apap, Boris Brovtsyn, Daishin Kashimoto, Vilde Frang, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Lars Anders Tomter, Maxim Rysanov, Nicolas Altstedt, Maximilian Hornung, Olli Mustonen, Louis Lortie, Konstantin Lifschitz, Radovan Vlatkovic, Mark Padmore, Juliane Banse and many others.
